Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011, and paid by means of a specific grant based on school census figures for pupils registered as eligible for Free School Meals (FSM). For Looked After children the pupil premium was calculated using the Looked After data returns (SSDA903). A premium has also been introduced for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces.
The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools so that they can support their disadvantaged pupils and close the attainment gap between them and their peers.
We recognise that not all pupils entitled to (or who have ever been entitled to) FSM or Pupil Premium will require additional support.
We also recognise that not all pupils entitled to claim FSM are registered and therefore reserve the right to target pupil premium funding at those pupils, where a legitimate social disadvantage has been identified.
